Top 15 Heartbreaking (and highly recommended) Reads!

Hello, readers! I thought I’d put together a list of reads that have made me incredibly emotional and left me in a puddle of tears. Pick up a box of tissues (or ten) before one-clicking this list, you’re going to need it!

Me Before You by Jojo Moyes

This is one heartwrenching read. Honestly, who knew I could cry and read—at the same time—for over three chapters? That takes talent.

Ten Below Zero by Whitney Barbetti

It’s almost ridiculous to think about how much this book hurt to read. It’s utterly tragic and exhilarating. A must-read.

Unlit Star by Lindy Zart

This read is so moving and beautiful, yet has the power to render you speechless. Lots of tears and all the feels.

Making Faces by Amy Harmon

This book!!!! I was in such a tearful book hangover after this book!!! So incredible and poignant.

Bright Side by Kim Holden

Not cool, Kim. Bright Side ripped me apart, absolutely shredded my heart, yet I loved every bit of it.

Confess by Colleen Hoover

No surprise here. CoHo knows how to make you cry and pull you back together, every single time.

Between Everything and Us by Rebecca Paula

I was an absolute mess after this book. Real life issues and an unforgiving sadness that sticks with you after you’ve finished the story.

Forever, Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid

Read my review and you’ll see why I couldn’t read this story and not cry my eyes out.

Golden Boy by Abigail Tarttelin

God, this story will never leave me. It’s heartbreakingly sad, yet beautifully executed. The sadness is necessary. Reading this story is a must.

Burying Water by K.A. Tucker

My favorite read from 2014! Expect tears and a perpetual heartache.

Firefly Lane by Kristin Hannah

My first ever Kristin Hannah read and my favorite by far. I ugly cried with this one. Brutal and brilliant.

Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler

One of the best YA reads I’ve read to date. A gorgeous, yet devastating, story.

All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven

This story is SO important. Agonizing, stunning and an overall phenomenal read.

Fa├žade by Nyrae Dawn

Plot twisting and devastating. Love is too small a word for what I feel for this story!

Before We Were Strangers by Renee Carlino

Oh my god, did I cry with this book!! I felt everything these characters were feeling. It's seriously that good.

  1. Love this topic! I love a book that I am so invested in the story and/or so connected to the characters that it can make me cry. It's my favorite kind of read. Me Before You was definitely one of those. Oh, it made my heart hurt. I *almost* started Unlit Star over the weekend but decided to pick up one of my library books instead. It'll happen soon. Same with Making Faces and Bright Side. They're both high on my TBR and I've heard both are total tearjerkers. Almost anything by Kristin Hannah makes me sob. Most recently, The Nightingale. I'll be checking out some on your list that I'm not familiar with.
