Review: The Moment of Letting Go by J.A. Redmerski

Rating: 5 Cups of Coffee

Goodreads Book Description:
Sienna Murphy never does anything without a plan. And so far her plans have been working. Right after college, she got a prestigious job and gained the stability she'd always craved-until work takes her to the sun-drenched shores of Oahu and places her in the path of surfer Luke Everett. For the first time, she lets her heart take control. Drawn to his carefree charm, she makes a spontaneous and very un-Sienna-like decision to drop everything and stay in Hawaii for two more weeks.

Luke lives fast and wild. When he meets Sienna, he's convinced that some no-strings-attached fun is just what she needs. As their nights quickly turn from playful to passionate, Luke can't deny the deep connection he feels. But there's a reason Luke doesn't do long-term. He can't promise Sienna forever, when the enormity of his past has shown him just how fragile the future can be . . .

Lindsay's Experience:
Seldom do I find a story that resonates deep within my soul like this one that J.A. Redmerski wrote.

THE MOMENT OF LETTING GO had me rethinking my entire life as I sat on my twin-sized mattress stuffed in the corner of my dorm scouring the internet for a cheap one-way ticket to Oahu. I'm not normally drawn to stories that immediately feel like the classic tale of happenstance romance; I prefer love stories I can see myself in, stories that embody the hardships that inevitably come with life. Despite these preferences, THE MOMENT OF LETTING GO allowed me to dive head first into a love story made for romantics, while keeping that sense of reality.

The title says it all: the moment you let go of what ails you is the moment life begins.

Luke and Sienna, an unlikely duo, find each other at the exact right moment in their lives. And isn’t timing everything? Sienna, the protagonist known for coloring inside the lines, is given the opportunity to throw away what she knows in order to experience life outside of her comfort zone when she meets Luke Everett, a surfer living quite carelessly.

“It took a drastic change, and to be blindsided by love, to make me see how much better, how much more peaceful and fulfilling life can be when it’s not drowned in stress and expectations and fear. It took me giving up what I thought made me the person I am…”

Sienna Murphy takes a chance when she breaks away from her unfulfilling life after meeting an intriguing stranger who asks her to stay in Hawaii for just a few more hours. Just a few more hours soon becomes two weeks worth of adventure as Luke introduces Sienna to a life comprised of surfing, skydiving, and everything else in between that can scare the life into you. However, Luke has a past that haunts him while Sienna is letting fear control her future. If Luke can help her overcome what is scaring her from living a full life, can Sienna help him rid himself of the guilt that has chained him to his past?

“I really do wish that I wasn’t so afraid. I’ve been afraid all my life and there comes a point when all you want to do is be free of it, when you begin to actually see yourself doing things you never thought you’d do.”

J.A. Redmerski delivered a flawless combination of cheesy and heartfelt with THE MOMENT OF LETTING GO. I found myself empathizing with both Sienna and Luke repeatedly, recalling all the times I let my fear of uncertainty and memory of discomfort determine my future. This familiar scene, combined with Redmerski’s depiction of a modern love story full of adventure, made for worthy read. 5 cups!

  1. Enjoyed your review! I read this one last month and it really took me by surprise. I kind of fell in love with it. My heart ached for Luke and then it hurt for Sienna. And then I thought I knew how it was ending and my heart hurt even more. What an experience.
