Guest Review: Corrupt by Penelope Douglas

Rating: 5 Cups of Coffee
Goodreads Book Description:
Erika
I was told that dreams were our heart’s desires. My nightmares, however, became my obsession.
His name is Michael Crist.
My boyfriend’s older brother is like that scary movie that you peek through your hand to watch. He is handsome, strong, and completely terrifying. The star of his college’s basketball team and now gone pro, he’s more concerned with the dirt on his shoe than me.
But I noticed him.
I saw him. I heard him. The things that he did, and the deeds that he hid…For years, I bit my nails, unable to look away.
Now, I’ve graduated high school and moved on to college, but I haven’t stopped watching Michael. He’s bad, and the dirt I’ve seen isn’t content to stay in my head anymore.
Because he’s finally noticed me.

Michael
Her name is Erika Fane, but everyone calls her Rika.
My brother’s girlfriend grew up hanging around my house and is always at our dinner table. She looks down when I enter a room and stills when I am close. I can always feel the fear rolling off of her, and while I haven’t had her body, I know that I have her mind. That’s all I really want anyway.
Until my brother leaves for the military, and I find Rika alone at college.
In my city.
Unprotected.
The opportunity is too good to be true as well as the timing. Because you see, three years ago she put a few of my high school friends in prison, and now they’re out.
We’ve waited. We’ve been patient. And now every last one of her nightmares will come true.

Maree's Experience:

“Life is one-way, and there is no return trip. What are you waiting for?”

Squeeee!!!! What an INCREDIBLE ride!

An addictive, fast-paced story that had me hanging on to the edge of my seat until the very last page. This is a dark, gritty, sexy, heart-racing and utterly addictive read with the most perfect epilogue to conclude a journey I will never forget. absolutely loved loved loved this book!!!!

"Only I wasn’t alone.
And the best part? She didn’t know that we knew. She didn’t know that we were coming for her.”

Penelope Douglas has written an amazing dark romance with strong characters and a captivating story line. I had absolutely no idea where this book was going to go, even up until the 50% mark, I was still trying to piece together every little thing I thought I knew about the story. This was the perfect balance of dark and raw and sexy and (at times) romantic. I am nursing one hellova book hangover right now, and I want to do it all again!!

“Yeah, you’re going to be in my bed, baby, but not until you wish you hated me.”

Michael Crist. He was not the type hero I expected to fall for. He’s bad, manipulative and mixes with a group of mates who are fresh out of prison. You stay away from guys like Michael. They’re bad news, dangerous and out of control. He is now out for revenge, determined to make the girl who changed the lives of his three best friends forever, pay.

“The timing was perfect, she was here, and so was I."

Erica Fane’s family comes from money. She has always had everything handed to her. She’s smart, kind and a girl just looking to find out where she belongs in the world. Until she moves into the building owned my Michael’s family, on the floor below Michael himself. The one man who has had her heart from the very first day she laid eyes on him… the very man who wants nothing more than to make her suffer.

“You’re a good girl on the outside, but no one knows who the hell you are on the inside, do they?”

I really can’t tell you anymore about this book. Honestly, the best way to read it is to go in as blind as you can. It’s a journey that needs to be experienced by you. I promise it really is the best way. This author does a wonderful job at keeping you guessing, and she holds nothing back. Although I did (at times) feel like I wanted to know more about the backstory of some of the secondary characters. So I am hopeful that we will get to know them a little more in the future! *cough* Kai *cough* ;)

“Own who you are,” he commanded. “And don’t apologize.”

This book is jam packed full of shock reveals, twists and turns and some of the hottest scenes I have ever read. It’s highly addictive and is one of the best books I have read this year. It was an absolute joy to read. I honestly had so much fun!! Yes it’s dark, it’s gritty and yes, at times, it scared me half to death but I loved hard and fell harder. And by the end of it, I couldn’t wipe the ridiculous smile off my face. I am now left with this giant hole in my life. I was completely consumed for two days straight and I’m totally jealous of anyone who gets to read this book for the very first time.

Totally epic!! 5 Stars!!
