Blog Tour Review + Giveaway: Misconduct by Penelope Douglas

Rating: 5 Cups of Coffee
Former tennis player Easton Bradbury is trying to be the best teacher she can be, trying to reach her bored students and trying to forget her past. What brought her to this stage in her life isn’t important. She can’t let it be. But now one parent-teacher meeting may be her undoing…

Meeting Tyler Marek for the first time makes it easy for Easton to see why his son is having trouble in school. The man knows how to manage businesses and wealth, not a teenage boy. Or a young teacher, for that matter, though he tries to. And yet…there is something about him that draws Easton in—a hint of vulnerability, a flash of attraction, a spark that might burn.

Wanting him is taboo. Needing him is undeniable. And his long-awaited touch will weaken Easton’s resolve—and reveal what should stay hidden…

Natasha’s Experience:
What is it about Penelope Douglas’ writing that makes me want to forget about doing normal things like eating or sleeping because I’m too wrapped up in her words? I first fell for her prose after binge reading her Fall Away series; now I’m too far gone after reading MISCONDUCT.

“Your true self isn’t always the person people should see.”

MISCONDUCT is set in beautiful New Orleans and follows Easton Bradbury, a 23-year-old teacher who can’t stand being out of control due to a dark past, and Tyler Marek, a 35-year-old businessman who is used to having all of the control and not taking no for an answer. These two meet and you already know that they will be fighting for the upper hand. Their chemistry is feverish and their banter is what dreams are made of. Writing this review now makes me want to flip right over to page 1 and start this baby one more time.

“I didn’t like how she kept me at arm’s length. I’d always set the boundaries, not the other way around.”

Their circumstances cause whatever they are to become forbidden, a kind of love that can only live in the dark spaces. Being together becomes an addiction that they succumb to, a fire that threatens to burn them.

Tyler Marek is everywhere all at once. He wants to be on top of the world, constantly striving to be better, to be the best. He knows business, but somehow being a father isn’t something that comes naturally to him. It doesn’t help that his son, Christian, is a teenage boy who is filled with resentment. Tyler tries prioritizing his life, but ends up being selfless and selfish all at once. He wants Easton, but he needs to be the guy his son can rely on, the upstanding father that he never had the chance to be before.

“Life was scarier –and harder—when you had things you were afraid to lose.”

Easton Bradbury is young but has an old soul. She lives with a dark past that she likes to keep under the wraps; she’s given up a lot of who she was and needs control like a drug. Being with Tyler is like losing that control she desperately requires.

“It wasn’t easy to say no to something you wanted, but I was taught that while some mistakes can be overcome, others should never be made. In our hearts, we always know what’s right and wrong. That’s not the struggle. The struggle is wanting what’s wrong for you and gauging whether or not the consequences are worth it.”

MISCONDUCT has everything I want in a read – a storyline that you can’t help but fall into, characters who are complex, situations that become overwhelming, suspense, SO much heat that burns bright and strong, and writing that is both riveting and flawless. Another A++ read from Penelope Douglas. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next!
